Wittelsbach 2644, bronze, approx 25mm acrosss, Carl Theodor Freiherr von Hallberg-Broich (1768-1862) acquired Birkeneck Castle near Freising in 1825. In 1827 he came up with a plan to reclaim the moor around Hallberg and found a colony. The king agreed to the plan, but insisted on changing the original name Ludwigsburg to Hallbergmoos. In 1828, the year it was minted, the first house was occupied.

Issued in the "Showa Era 15th Year (1940)", with original ribbon of issue.

The 2600th anniversary of the foundation of the Japanese Empire by Jimmu Tenno in 600 B.C. was celebrated in November 1940. The medal was instituted by Imperial Edict No. 488 of July 27, 1940, to be awarded to those summoned to the 1940 National Anniversary Day Festival, to those invited to the 2600th anniversary ceremonies, and to those connected with official duties and important affairs of the anniversary.

Reverse: Port broadside view of HMS 'Frolic' (sloop) (left), partially dismasted and USS 'Wasp' (sloop) (right) in close action; men fighting on the 'Frolic's' forecastle. The figures are shown larger that lifesize. Legend: 'VICTORIAM HOSTI MAJORI CELERRIME RAPUIT.' (He quickly snatched the victory from a stronger foe.) Exergue: 'INTER WASP NAV. AMERI. ET FROLIC NAV.
